The Sauga Fishing Village is a place of experiences – and that is not just a saying.
Here, food, activities, and accommodation inspired by coastal life and fishing culture come together to create a holistic experience that you will remember for a long time to come.
At the Sauga Fishing Village, tourist groups can enjoy a meal at the harbour restaurant – a unique marquee tent on the banks of the Sauga River.
The menu focuses on fish and meat dishes, which are cooked over an open flame – on the grill, over a fire, or in a smoke oven. We use as many local ingredients as possible and, through our flavours, tell the story of life among the coastal communities of Estonia.
The marquee tent is warm even in winter and creates a special atmosphere. We can accommodate up to 75 guests, and up to 200 guests in summer when the terrace is open. We cater for groups all year round, subject to advance booking.
In Estonia, fishing has been part of everyday life for centuries. The coastal people have lived in harmony with the sea – catching fish, building boats, and cherishing a simple and honest way of life.
Sauga Fishing Village has developed out of a connection with fishing and the sea that spans generations, where the way of life and traditions of the coastal community have been a natural part of everyday life.
During the tour, we will talk about the lives of the coastal people, fishing traditions, and the history of the Sauga Fishing Village.
A key part of the story is the Kakuam fishing boat, which was first used in Pärnu Bay as early as 1939 to catch sprat, the national fish of Estonia, and which is still in use today.
You can see this boat today at the Sauga Fishing Village – we have given it a new lease of life and converted it into accommodation with a sauna.
The courtyard of the fishing village is also home to the Jenny Kruse, an old wooden fishing boat from Denmark with a colourful history.
If you wish, you can, by prior arrangement, enjoy a sauna experience in an authentic kakuam fishing boat, where two key elements of Estonian culture – fishing and the sauna – come together.
You can enhance your visit with activities that offer an insight into Estonian fishing culture and life by the water.
All activities are available to book in advance and can be combined with catering. We can help put together a schedule and programme tailored to your needs.
